The village – Online Membership for nature witches

Enter your spiritual homeland

You have collected witchy tools and ideas, but nothing ever really grew roots. Or perhaps your grandmother whispered about the spirits of nature, and you were never able to connect the dots of what she said. So you keep looking for the next thing that might be “it”.

The Village is a year of animism, folklore and self-discovery with a Finnish-Karelian folk witch. It is rooted in Finnic folklore, lived in your own practice and shared with a village of witches.

The Village opens on the 1st of November. 12 months residency.

Find that connection you so desire

You keep asking yourself: is what I’m doing real? Does it mean anything?

In Finnic folklore the forest has memory, water has a voice, and every place has its haltija (guardian/elf). This is how people lived in the north, and how they survived there. They gave, they asked and they bargained with the nature.

In the Village you will build deeper connection with nature and grow the roots you are missing. Connect into something mythical that alreayd lives in you. Ground yourself and find the connections you have been looking for. The north winds are calling you home.

Grow roots so you can rise

How your practice, your craft and you can grow over the year:

Your bond with the land becomes a relationship

The land stops being just something pretty to look at. You give, you ask, and you take care of the places that hold you. Connection without responsibility and reciprocity is just aesthetics.

You stop asking “do I have the right?”

Instead you start asking “how do I do this with respect? ” You learn from the sources, you honour where the lore comes from, and you let it deepen the relationship with nature you already have. What you’ve built over the years was never made up. It was only waiting for roots.

You stop practicing alone

Even a solitary witch needs a village every now and then. Here, you are seen. Keep your own practice and your own pace, but share it with people who get what you mean when you say the lake felt different today. Here, your way of seeing the world is not the strange thing. It’s just the thing.

Your practice gets a rhythm

The Village gives it a pace. Every month brings something to return to, something to make and something to celebrate. The calendar is not there to tell you what to do. It creates the conditions in which your practice and your confidence within grows and evolves, month by month.

You stop collecting and start creating

Magic doesn’t live only in books, and it doesn’t live on Etsy. It lives in the people who use it, live it and change with it. You chant the spells, make crafts and create rituals of your own. Your art becomes ritual, your ritual becomes art, and the two start feeding each other.

And if you have Finnic roots…

Maybe the thread broke somewhere along the way. Your family left, the songs weren’t passed on, and the old ways went quiet so that life could go on. In the Village you pick up the thread again and begin a new relationship with the tradition, one that fits the life you live now. You have a place in this story.

This is a village of witches

Here, no one asks if you’re witch enough. We are all equals here, honor each other’s paths and our differences. We build our own craft, our own rituals, our own way.

In the village you do not need to simplify yourself. The depth you bring is met with equal depth. Here you don’t need to explain why you take this seriously.

Some of us have Finnish grandmothers. Some found this tradition through a DNA test or sensed the magic when visiting Finland. Some have practiced alone for forty years. We don’t all practice the same way, and that’s the point. Everyone builds their own craft, and the circle holds the differences.

In the village you are not practicing or creating alone with a workbook and hoping it lands. Around you will be: witches, dreamers, memory keepers and cycle-breakers, all walking their own lore and connecting to the mythical versions of themselves.

Ninni is wonderful and knowledgeable. Her teaching style is warm, attentive, and generous. She has provided me with an important link to my ancestral heritage and helped me better understand the traditions that have been lost in my own family. I have practiced ritual for years, but with Ninni’s help I am learning practices that feel authentic to me and my lineage. What a delight it is to go on this journey with her as a guide.

Life in the village

Monthly theme

Each month opens one theme from Finnic (mostly Finnish and Karelian) folklore, and the question it asks of you. We begin with the water birds and the Mother of Waters, and follow them into the depths of the mind. In December we meet the spirits of the home. In January we turn to ancient cosmology: how the world was made, and where you stand in it.

Audio journeys

Rune singing and meditation woven together, so you can experience the lore instead of only reading about it.

The wheel of the year

The old agricultural calendar and the bear year. You get the key dates, the seasonal folk beliefs and the magic people practiced on them: what they did, and when.

Spells and rituals

Old spells and poems (runes) are the heart of the material. Use rituals from the lore, or create your own from the theme.

Witchy creative prompts

Each month calls you to make something: a folk craft, a spell, or some other kind of witchy creation.

Community

Between gatherings, the village shares ideas, half-finished spells and the strange thing that happened in the forest on Tuesday.

My approach

Witches’ North exists because of my deep love towards folklore and the land I live on. I believe that folklore is meant to be lived, and evolve together with time. I also belief in hospitality and openness, when it comes to culture.

I often call myself a skeptic witch, but the more I learn about folklore, the less skeptic I find myself. For I think that there is a lot of wisdom that lives in the lore, and that the mythology is a way to our inner words and deeper understanding of the world.

For me, the biggest magic is one’s ability to overcome fears and transform themselves into something that is more true to them. And our ability to create. I also am pulled by animism. I greet and sing to the forest, crows and the moon. I ask for strength from the ground and resilience from the waters.

What I do with Witches’ North is deeply rooted in the Finnic (mostly Finnish and Karelian) folklore and old spells. I seek for information from books and archives. I make own interpretations. I create own spells and sing them. I blend spells with meditation principles creating special kind of audio journeys which make it possible to experience the folklore in a whole different level. In bring forward this animistic world for you, and help you in finding your own way in practicing in it. While connecting like-minded people around the world.

I live in the Eastern Finland. My roots are in North Karelia and Karelia. Finnish folklore can be quite local, and the east and west have some major differences (more Scandinavian in the west, more Slavic influences in the east). I lean towards Eastern Finnish and Karelian tradition in my teachings.

Ninni does a beautiful job of being grounded in Finnic folklore, translating original material to be accessible for non-Finnish speakers, staying true to the sources while also bringing inspiration, knowledge from her own gnosis and practice. This course was an opportunity to learn in a deep way and to center the divine feminine in a way that mainstream sources often miss. Ninni is knowledgeable and also spiritually engaged with the material.

Rise, my Nature from the void
Spirit from beneath the ground.
Come and stir the sleeping power
Come beside me as I chant
Arise now, and rise forever,
when my words awaken you

about

My name is Ninni

I’m an Eastern-Finnish-Karelian witch walking my own kind of shamanistic path.

I write, I sing spells, I craft things. There are always a few projects waiting for their turn. I seek inspiration from nature and folklore, always building a deeper connection with myself and the world, always finding new layers in both.

I struggled through overwhelm, anxiety, and burnout. And an enormous creative block. I opened a conversation with my nervous system, my fears, and my shadows, and found the energy and courage to follow my own North star.

I’m not saying the overwhelm and anxiety are gone. But through them, I have become brave and strong (and some might say: insane) enough to build something that truly means something to me.

That is what Witches’ North is about: taking ownership of your magic and your power, together with the spirits, spells and wisdom of the Finnic folklore. Here we connect to something ancient and bigger than ourselves. We building momentum for change from inside out.

Our craft matters.

I walk with witches, dreamers, memory keepers, and cycle-breakers who are ready to live their lore.

Q&A

Connection is the practice

In the core of Witches’ North is building connection that holds. To yourself, to others, to the living world, and to something older than all of it. This is where the magic lives.

To self

This is all about self-discovery and compassion. You cannot live fully from a self you don’t know. Your beliefs, your shadows, the patterns that protect you and the ones that limit you. These are not problems to fix, but territory to explore. When you know your own energy, your own voice, your own magic, you stop performing and start living.

To others

We are not meant to carry meaning alone. Shared ritual, shared witness, the moment someone else names what you’ve been carrying in silence. This is a biological and spiritual necessity. The right circle doesn’t drain you. It reminds you who you are and lifts you up.

To nature

Disconnection from the living world is one of the quietest forms of poverty. Finnish tradition knew what modern life forgot: the forest has memory, the water has voice, the land has its own intelligence. When you bring yourself to nature with intention, it meets you. Nurturing this relationship brings both healing and meaning. But more than that: it returns you to a conversation that was never meant to stop.

To something greater

Humans have always needed to make sense of the world. Across centuries and continents, the stories we’ve told are surprisingly similar. You are part of a long continuum of meaning-making. Mythology and science are not opposites. One tells the story of the soul, the other tells something more practical. Both are true. Finnic folklore gives you a specific thread to hold. When you find it, you find that you were never outside the story. You were always in it.
